Happy Birthday, Dede

I made you this cake.  It has taken me all week to do it.  There was lots of cursing, but I think it turned out rather nicely.  Royal Icing.  Cinderella and the stepsisters are formed from marzipan.  Thank heaven, Cinderella is on her balcony, because the dog ate part of her dress.  The flags are melted sugar.

The UPS man said, "No way can you mail this."

"But, but . . ."  Tears in my eyes.

"No ma'am.  No."

So it's standing on the kitchen counter where it will be until you arrive next summer to eat it.

Meanwhile, on Monday your other present will arrive.

I hope you are wonderfully spoiled today.  I hope your man knows what to do!

Wet kisses.

WOW!!! That is an amazing cake. I can't wait to see it in person. You are such a great mother in law to work so hard on a cake for me.
Your son Ed is a busy guy.
For the last two birthdays I have gotten running clothes. Which is great, I need them. But he did, in fact, give me the same running pants both years. And I get them because there is conveniently a running store in his building that he can stop at on his way home the day of my birthday.
We celebrated last night by going to Legal Seafood because he is going to a boxing match at Madison Square Garden tonight with some friends.

He's going to a boxing match with friends? Okay, I'm seriously sorry that he is more like his mother than his father. Tom knows how to do birthdays, but I often become confused and disoriented and go to boxing matches with my friends. And the thing is he can't get any help from Rian, because she's in a ring of her own. In a few years he can hire Samantha to do his shopping and birthday planning for him. I think she'll handle the job beautifully. (Her present arrives on Monday as well). Happy Birthday anyway.

A note to Dede,
I think you ought to kick his sorry butt. You're spending your birthday night alone? Well, not alone, but without Ed? Makes me want to fly out and celebrate with you Dede. Just the two of us. Wait. That doesn't sound right. Well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
And buckets of love.

Im afraid i dont understand.

I dont believe that you made that cake. Please ignore that comment if it was supposed to be sarcastic and everything.

Boxing matches are unethical. Happy Birthday Dede!

I prefer boxers to briefs myself. But on Erica's birthday I always hope she'll try to get me out of my undies altogether.
